Mr. Flanders has been associated with Criterium Mooney Engineers since July 1993 and with Criterium-Brown Engineers (formerly Criterium Mooney/Sousa Engineers) since September 1994. He has performed over 1000 building inspections for these firms. He is registered in Maine to perform radon measurement services. Mr. Flanders is uniquely qualified to perform residential and commercial building inspections. His career in building construction and renovation started at the age of twelve when he assisted with the construction of a four bedroom cottage and then with the construction of a five-bedroom cape at the age of fifteen. He went on to renovate a farmhouse-style building into apartments over the next few years. After college and a tour of duty as a marine engineering officer, he purchased his first home, a fixer upper, and went on to renovate two other homes including various additions. He has designed and acted as general contractor on two 1,800-square-foot+, single-family homes. This was done while holding various engineering and management positions involving mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering disciplines. These positions also included the development and execution of long-range maintenance plans. His building inspection projects have included residential homes, bed and breakfasts, commercial buildings, dairy farms, oceanfront estates, condominiums, lakeside cottages, rental properties, restaurants, specialty schools, storm damage assessments, insurance company inspections, and evaluations of contractor workmanship. He also has experience as an expert witness. Mr. Flanders holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Engineering from Maine Maritime Academy. He has completed numerous Continuing Education seminars related to building technology. He has received training on the requirements of residential inspection techniques as specified by the National Academy of Building Inspection Engineers. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Maine and a Maine licensed First Class Stationary Power Engineer. Mr. Flanders is an active member of the Maine Coalition of Home Inspection Professionals.
