Currently a staff engineer for Criterium-Brown, Mr. Sousa previously owned and operated Criterium-Mooney/Sousa Engineers. Before starting his own office, Mr. Sousa had spent three years as General Manager of the Bangor office of Criterium-Mooney Engineers; he was responsible for developing and serving clients in central and eastern Maine. Prior to moving to Maine, Mr. Sousa spent six years as a partner in a construction company, specializing in residential and commercial buildings and related site work. Prior to owning his own construction company, Tony was Vice President of a similar company for eight years. He was responsible for business development, estimating, purchasing and engineering for both companies. Earlier in his career, Mr. Sousa spent fourteen years as the Chief Structural Engineer and then Vice President and Treasurer of a two hundred man consulting firm in Morristown, New Jersey. In addition to structural design, Tony was responsible for foreign and domestic business expansion along with architectural and mechanical-electrical supervision, construction supervision, structural supervision, and home development and construction. Mr. Sousa spent the first five years of his career with the Bridge Department of the State of California. Throughout his career, Mr. Sousa has been active in numerous professional and civic organizations, such as the American Railway Engineer’s Association; the National Society of Professional Engineers; the Consulting Engineers Consul; The Association of Parking Authorities of New Jersey; the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association; the American Society of Civil Engineers; The New Jersey Society of Professional Planners; and the Association of General Contractors. As a bridge designer, Tony was honored as the Second Award Winner in the 1966 United States Steel International Bridge Design Competition. Tony received his Civil Engineering degree from Lehigh University in 1959. He also did graduate work in Soil Mechanics, Foundations, and Concrete at Newark College of Engineering. Tony is a Registered Professional Engineer in Maine, California and New Jersey. |
